If you have recently purchased a new paint sprayer for use in an upcoming industrial project, you may be looking it over to get acquainted with using it. While examining it and the included documentation, you may have discovered that there are a wide variety of tips available for different types of paints and coatings.
Especially if you do not have much experience with using this type of equipment, you may be at a loss as to which tip you should choose. Start by asking yourself the questions below when choosing the right tips for your industrial paint sprayer.
1. What Is the Consistency and Texture of the Paint You Will Be Using?
One of the first questions to ask yourself when it comes time to choose a tip for a specific phase of your painting project has to do with the paint itself. What is the consistency and texture of the paint? Is it smooth and thin? Or, is the paint rough and abrasive for use as a coating?
If the paint has a smooth texture and has a fairly thin consistency, you should use a tip with a smaller hole. This tip can be constructed out of a weaker metal such as stainless steel.
However, if you are going to be using a coating that has an abrasive texture and thicker consistency like a zinc powder coating, a larger hole in the tip is used. And, because of the abrasive nature of the paint, you will need a stronger, highly resistant metal such as tungsten or titanium.
2. What Type of Finish Are You Hoping to Achieve?
Another question to ask yourself when deciding on what tip to use on your sprayer has to do with the finish you wish to achieve. Do you want a smooth, flawless finishing coat? Or, will it need a rough finish to withstand the elements?
For a fine finish, a small tip with an oblong shape will apply the paint evenly and give it a smoothness to coating. However, for a rough finish, a large borehole in the tip that has a ragged edge can allow you to achieve the desired results.
Asking yourself the above questions about the qualities of the paint as well as the type of finish you wish to have on the product can help you select the right tip for each type of paint and phase of the painting process. Speak with a representative with a company that offers industrial paint spraying equipment for more guidance on making your tip selections as well as to learn more about the available sizes, materials, and compatibilities with various types of paints, coatings, and finishes.
