When your business relies on forklifts for everyday work processes, these machines become a vital part of getting anything done. Therefore, the parts that are used to keep these machines on the move and functional are just as important. It is always a good idea if you have a stock supply of readied forklift parts available when something goes wrong and you need to make quick repairs. In order to do so, you should know the most commonly replaced forklift parts. Here is a look at some of the parts on a forklift that tend to get replaced most often.
1. Pedal Pads
Pedal pads are the rubber pads on the foot pedals of the forklift, and these are a major contact point on the piece of equipment. Therefore, these pads do tend to wear down over time and need to be replaced. If the rubber pad on the pedal wears away, it can make it difficult to maintain a good grip on the pedals, which can pose a safety hazard while stopping.
2. Air Filters
Gas-powered forklifts have an engine that has an exhaust filtration system just like a regular vehicle. Therefore, you will have an air filter that will need to be checked and replaced periodically. A clogged air filter can make the forklift run roughly because the oxygen flow through the engine will be inhibited, so a forklift can be completely down due to the air filter needing to be replaced.
3. Forklift Chains
The forklift chains are located on the lift and have the direct responsibility of raising and lowering the lift. The more the lift is used, the more the chain will go through stress and wear on a daily basis. Having a spare chain on hand for every forklift you have in your place of business is a good thing to do. If a chain breaks, you can do a quick replacement and not be left with a non-functional forklift.
4. Power Steering Components
The steering power of the forklift is one of the things that make it functional even in a tight space. Power steering systems in forklifts can vary in design, but just about all of them will have certain belts, seals, and components that have to be replaced on a regular basis. For example, a belt-driven power steering system will periodically need a new belt. Look at your specific forklift's power steering system and invest in a few components that you know you may need.
